Thanks for reaching out. I'm pretty sure we've all stuffed a stereo or tape deck into an old car along the way, but I don't know of anyone who could be called an audiophile in the club.
My most recent experience was putting a Classic Stereo (from classicstereos.com) in my wife's '70 Cougar.
I ordered a unit with an AUX port so we can use her Ipod. I also upgraded the in-dash speakers and was somewhat baffled at the two speaker, three wire system that came from the factory. My best resources came from Crutchfield.com and Cougar wiring diagrams. I just paired it with a Bluetooth receiver and it seems to work pretty well. That's about the extent of my knowledge.
Perhaps you can bring it up at our next meeting, especially if you have a specific system in mind.
